I often work from a thought, which has a surreal quality in itself, or a notion of unconscious concepts which maybe hidden or in plain sight. My mood and feelings guide me through the process of each step. This process can be fast and furious, or cumbersome and slow. But in any way...it’s a rewarding, engaging moment. I often work with overlapping different techniques as well as with built-up paint which results in new conceptually layered pieces. This fascination of layering paint leads to new perspectives and dimensions, inviting the viewer to examine my work at close range. Approaching the painting from different angles reveals its subject matter to the eye and mind. I think of my paintings as an expression of calmness and flow and sometimes of dance and seduction and let color, technique and mood guide me to the finished piece. The same concept applies to my mixed media work, fiber arts, my sculptures, to installations, to photography or any other artistic endeaver I try to accomplish. I love the challenge, the trials, the exploration as well as the pitfalls that naturally come at times for me as an artist. As long as the passion fuels my desire to create, as long as I am able to, as long as ideas evolve, I have to follow my calling. Creating art is a constant source of joy and discovery and I hope I will never stop wondering and being amazed. New approaches, exploring and experimenting within the genre of visual art feeds my mind and spirit.
